An Act to supply for better protection in the interests of consumers and for that purpose to make provision pertaining to the organization of buyer councils and also other authorities pertaining to the arrangement of consum¬ers' disputes and then for matters linked therewith.

BE it enacted by Parliament in the Thirty-seventh Year of the Republic of India the following: —

PHASE I

PRIMARY

1 . Short title, level, commencement and application. —(1 ) This Act may be called the customer Protection Work, 1986. (2)It extends to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir. (3)It shall enter into force in such particular date as the Central Authorities may, simply by notification, appoint and different schedules may be designated for different Declares and for different provisions of the Act. (4)Save as or else expressly furnished by the Central Government simply by notification, this kind of Act shall apply to most goods and services. 2 . Definitions. - (1) With this Act, unless of course the framework otherwise needs, — (a)" appropriate laboratory" means a laboratory or perhaps organisation— (i)recognised by the Central Government;

(ii)recognised by a State Government, subject to such guide¬lines since may be recommended by the Central Government with this behalf; or perhaps (iii)any such laboratory or organisation established by or...
